Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop - A Complete Review

Apple's MacBook line of laptops has met a dramatic overhaul, moving on to aluminum construction, edge-to-edge glass over LED displays, and oversize multi-touch track-pads. The latest updates have offered more fine-tuning and tweaking including some much-sought-after features.

The 13-inch aluminum uni-body of the Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A has been promoted to join the MacBook Pro family. To complete the move, the 13-inch Pro regains its missing FireWire port as well as an SD card slot making things a lot easier in general. The backlit keyboard has also been retained along with a non-removable battery similar to those already found on the MacBook Air and 17-inch Pro. However, Apple promises even better battery life with up to a 40 percent improvement.

Specification-wise the Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A offers a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB worth of 1066MHz DDR2 memory. The hard disk drive is a standard 160GB version running at 5,400rpm while the chipset is the NVIDIA MCP79. The graphics are the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M for good overall visuals. The laptop is powered by the OS X Leopard 10.5.7 operating system. While the Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A weighs in at 4.5 pounds without the AC adapter this thin and light laptop is more or less the same size as any other 13.3-inch display laptop albeit lighter and thinner than your average non-Apple variation. The design and construction of the system remains the same as last year's model, with its casing carved from a block a aluminum. It's both lighter and sturdier than the older plastic versions of the 13-inch MacBook.

The new Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A also retains the same oversize track pad, where the entire surface depresses like a button, although you can also tap like a PC laptop once you turn that option on in the settings menu. The two, three and four-finger multi-touch gestures are also available. Once you get used to this, going back to a regular touch pad is difficult.

According to Apple, the new display offers a wider color gamut, and the screen certainly looks bright and colorful. The 13.3-inch wide-screen LCD offers a 1280x800-pixel native resolution, which is standard for screens this size. The LED screen means a thinner lid and better battery life through more efficient energy usage while the corner-to-corner glass covering the whole display reflects lights easily, making the glossy screen hard to see in some lighting conditions.

Connection-wise the Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A offers a Mini-DisplayPort, VGA, mini-HDMI, or Mini-DVI port for displays as well as the standard Stereo speakers, headphone/microphone jacks, Stereo speakers and headphone/microphone jacks for audio. The laptop also offers USB2.0 ports, Mini-FireWire 800 ports and an SD card reader as well an ExpressCard/54 slot for expansion. The laptop connects via standard Ethernet LAN, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and optional WWAN. The laptop offers a DVD burner as well.

The Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A performed as expected, with the 2.26GHz GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU roughly on par with the 2.4GHz processor in the late-2008 version of the 13-inch MacBook. This allows it to handle Web surfing, working on office documents, multimedia playback with ease. The NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics delivered nearly 60 frames per second in Quake IV at 1024x768-pixel resolution that is respectable in itself. This means that you should at least be able to play World of Warcraft and other 3D MMORPGs with ease.

My Favorite Things - The Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch Laptop

Before we you start, I should mention that I have not always been a fan of Apple computers. In fact it was as recent as last year when I thought that Apple PCs were nothing more than overpriced and over-hyped computers. It was only when I used my sister's MacBook for about a week (I had no choice as my laptop broke down) that I got hooked. The Mac OS is just so much more user-friendly and much more easier to use. It takes a while getting used to but once you get a hang of it, it is much easier to use than the Windows OS. I am now the prove owner of an Apple MacBook Pro MB990LL/A 13.3-inch laptop!

First of all, let me just say that the new generation of Apple MacBook Pro is just a completely different species of laptop. Weather it is in its design, construction or performance, the MacBook Pro is head and shoulders above most Windows based laptops. Many leading tech publications have declared the Apple MacBook Pro as the best range of laptops for 2009! My 13.3-inch MacBook is powered by a 2.26Ghz processor. It has a 160GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM.

Although this set of specs may not seem like much, but tests have confirmed that multitasking speeds and the speed in running heavy applications (like Photoshop) are much faster on an Apple computer compared with other non-Apple laptops with the same specs. This is due to the built-in design of the Mac system. As for portability, the battery on the 13.3-inch model can last to an impressive 7 hours. With all the specs and tech stuff aside the Apple MacBook Pro is just very fun to use. It is very stylish and has given me such a pleasurable computing experience like none other. To all non-Apple laptops users out there; if you ever decide to take a leap of faith to get yourself your first Apple PC, the Apple MacBook Pro (MB990LL/A) 13.3-inch laptop would be a great way to go!

Apple MacBook Pro Laptop - Any Good?

The MacBook Pro is the successor to the 15-inch and 17-inch models of the PowerBook G4 series, and is the first Macintosh laptop to be powered by the Intel Core Duo processor. It has to be said - this is a machine to behold.

This is a fully featured notebook inside one inch of sturdy aluminum and is rated at four times to five times faster than the previous PowerBooks.

The MacBook Pro has advanced wireless capabilities built in and with its Leopard Operatin System it can run both Vista and Mac programs. It has the performance, power, and connectivity of a desktop computer and comes to you with the latest release of the world's most advanced operating system, Mac OS® X version 10. The brilliant widescreen sports a 1,440-by-900 resolution.

A MacBook Pro comes out of the box with something in the area of five and a half hours of battery life if you're just browsing the web and using office applications. Remember the older laptops lasting just an hour if you were lucky?

The Apple MacBook Pro is a sleek and elegant-looking laptop based on Santa Rosa, which features a faster, 800-MHz frontside bus, the ability to address up to 4 GB of memory, and better power conservation. This is an evolutionary improvement in the line, featuring new display backlight technology, a new logic board with more memory capacity and an updated Core 2 Duo CPU from Intel, and nVidia's new GeForce 8600M GT mobile graphics processor.

Though you may have to dig a little deeper into your pocket, all in all, the MacBook Pro is a must have for everyone.

Apple's MacBook Pro Laptop with the 13.3 inch screen has been getting an awful lot of buzz since it came out. So what's this buzz all about?

Well, to start with, this sturdy notebook includes a revolutionary battery that lasts as long as five years, more than three times longer than traditional laptop batteries. This incredible battery also keeps the Apple MacBook Pro Laptop running for up to an astounding seven hours on one charge. And because the battery's built right into the laptop, it does it without adding any extra thickness or weight.

The 13-inch LED-backlit glass display is just as impressive, serving up crisp, vividly colour images while reducing energy usage. The body of the laptop is made from a single block of aluminium, making it thin and light but also sturdy. Even the illuminated keyboard, with keys perfectly curved to fit your fingers, is integrated into this unibody technology. And the keyboard area includes a glass track pad with no separate buttons, providing a much larger area powered by Apple's Multi-touch technology. You can track and click anywhere on the pad.

A 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and standard 4 GB of RAM provide the punch behind the Apple MacBook Pro Laptop, and an integrated NVIDIA GeForce graphics processor serves up impressive graphics. Its cavernous 250 GB hard drive, 8x combo Super drive, built-in Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, FireWire and Secure Digital card slot are other hardware features. As for software, the laptop comes with the Mac OS X Snow Leopard operating system and the iLife '09 application suite, which even includes iTunes.

So all it comes down to is choice, are you a windows person or a Mac? I know people who swear by Apple, and the same with Windows! But you have to say that all these features add up to one powerful laptop that comes in a nice sturdy package. And that's what all the buzz is all about.

With so many choices on today's market its great, but it can work against you if you're unsure what you want. So information to Buy Apple MacBook Pro Laptop will help you make up your mind if the Apple Macbook laptop is the one you want to go for!

Key Features

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics are a great match for Apple's iMovie.

A New Standard for Performance and Portability

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro features advanced NVIDIA integrated graphics technology along with a faster Intel Core 2 Duo processor. That makes for the ultimate combination of performance, portability, and battery life--up to 10 hours--without adding an ounce to the slimmest, lightest MacBook Pro.

With the 1066 MHz frontside bus and 3 MB of shared L2 cache of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, all your applications will run faster and more efficiently than you thought possible. The 13-inch MacBook Pro also features the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics processor with 48 processing cores--three times as many as before. This results in a huge difference when using 3D games and graphics-intensive applications. And when you're not, you'll benefit from a new energy-efficient architecture that uses up to 40 percent less power for everyday tasks like writing email and surfing the web.

The beginning of every MacBook Pro--a precisely machined, single block of aluminum.

Unibody Design

Traditionally, notebooks are made from multiple parts. With the MacBook Pro all of those parts with just one part--the breakthrough unibody enclosure. Every MacBook Pro starts its life as a single block of aluminum, which is precisely machined into the basic unibody design. Another pass and the unibody takes shape. Another, and the integrated keyboard emerges. When you pick up a new MacBook Pro, you immediately notice the entire enclosure is thinner and lighter. And it feels strong and durable--perfect for life inside (and outside) your briefcase or backpack.

LED-Backlit Display

LCD displays typically use cold cathode fluorescent lamps, or CCFLs, to create light and project a picture onto a screen, and this creates two problems--the lamps require more space and they take more time to warm up to full brightness. The MacBook Pro uses LED backlight technology to create the same amount of brightness in less space. And unlike fluorescent lamps, an LED backlight reaches maximum brightness instantly. Finally, a new, smaller iSight camera is concealed behind the display for quick access to video chats and snapping pics for uploading to social networks.

The entire trackpad is the button, so you can click anywhere.

Additionally, conventional CCFL displays use mercury to create a backlight and arsenic to prevent irregularities in the glass. The LED-backlit display on the MacBook Pro, on the other hand, is both mercury- and arsenic-free. LED backlight technology also conserves energy: This display requires up to 30 percent less power than a CCFL display.

Buttonless Multi-Touch Trackpad

With no button on the durable glass trackpad, there's more room to track and click--left, right, center, and everywhere in between. Without a separate button, the spacious trackpad gives your hands plenty of room to move on the large, silky glass surface. It also incorporates Multi-Touch gestures--including swipe, pinch, rotate, and four-finger swipe--and even more natural inertial scrolling--an intuitive way to scroll through large photo libraries, lengthy documents and long web sites. If you're coming from a right-click world, you can right-click with two fingers or configure a right-click area on the trackpad.

Long-Lasting Battery

The new energy-efficient architecture in every MacBook Pro, along with automatic graphics switching, gives you dramatically longer battery life. On a single charge, the battery in the new 13-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to 10 hours. And you'll get up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles--that's nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries. Advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging allow the battery to maintain charging capabilities longer and determine the optimal way to charge the battery's cells. Because the battery lasts up to five years, MacBook Pro uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three. That makes for less waste. And that, in turn, makes for one environmentally friendly battery.

Environmental Considerations

Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed the majority of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more in the MacBook Pro.

Because Apple makes both the hardware and the software for the MacBook, they're designed to work together to produce a smarter product that uses less electricity. For instance, to reduce energy consumption, the hard drive spins down automatically when inactive. MacBook Air also decides which processor--CPU or GPU--is best suited to efficiently perform a task. The LED-backlit display in the MacBook Pro is another feature that plays an important part in conserving energy, consuming 30 percent less power than conventional LCD displays. And the display is designed to dim when you enter a darkened room.

The MacBook Pro meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR qualification. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption.

Also, every MacBook Pro model has earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold. The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it's designed and manufactured.

Pre-Loaded with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife '09

Every Mac comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the world's most advanced operating system, and iLife, Apple's innovative suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. iLife features iPhoto, to easily organize and manage photos; iMovie with powerful easy-to-use new features such as Precision Editor, video stabilization and advanced drag and drop; and GarageBand which introduces a whole new way to help you learn to play piano and guitar.

Installed software
